This Yellow Gesha comes from the Lazo family in San Adolfo, Huila, Colombia.
The story behind this coffee is closely tied to the history of the family. Don Segundo Lasso stayed on the land through one of the hardest periods for Colombian coffee producers, when prices collapsed and many small farmers were forced to leave their farms behind. With limited resources, he continued planting, caring for the soil and protecting the future of the farm, one harvest at a time.
That decision became the foundation for the next generation. Coffee had always been part of the family’s life, but it was Wilder Lazo who began looking at it through a different lens. Trained as a veterinarian and with a Master’s in Genetics, Wilder initially saw coffee as a difficult crop with very little reward. That changed after a visit to Finca Los Pirineos in El Salvador, where a single cup opened his mind to what coffee could be: aromatic, clean, complex and genuinely beautiful.
When he returned to Colombia, he began studying the genetic material on the family farms and looking for ways to improve quality from the very beginning: the seed. Through his relationship with Don Gilberto Baraona, Wilder was able to access rare varieties, including Geisha seeds connected to renowned Panamanian genetics.
This lot is called Yellow Gesha because the cherries turn yellow when fully ripe. Grown in San Adolfo, Huila, at around 1,450 metres above sea level, it reflects both the potential of the variety and the careful work of the Lazo family.
The process is detailed and patient. The cherries are harvested and fermented in plastic bags for 60 hours, then depulped and soaked in sealed water tanks for another 100 hours before being washed and sun-dried. For us, this is a coffee about legacy and curiosity: the resilience of one generation, the scientific eye of the next, and a variety known for its elegance when grown and processed with care.
