This washed Red Caturra lot comes from Finca Las Nueces, a family-owned farm located in the Santa Rosa area of Jalapa, Guatemala. Founded in 1986 by Don Amildo Morales and his wife Laura, Las Nueces has grown into a respected name in Guatemalan specialty coffee through its commitment to quality, sustainability, and community development.
Perched at 2,000 meters above sea level, the farm benefits from high elevation, rich volcanic soil, and cool microclimates—ideal conditions for growing expressive, high-quality coffee.
The Red Caturra variety, a natural mutation of Bourbon, is a compact, high-yielding plant prized for its sweet, balanced cup profile. Though more vulnerable to disease than some hybrids, Red Caturra rewards careful cultivation with bright acidity and clarity in the cup. In this lot, expect vibrant notes of tangerine, plums, red apple, orange, and dried apricot, supported by a caramelized sugar sweetness and a clean, structured finish.
Finca Las Nueces continues to be operated by the Morales family, who apply generations of farming knowledge to produce coffees that truly reflect their environment. This release is a reflection of their meticulous work—a clean, juicy, and layered Guatemalan coffee that highlights both varietal character and regional terroir.
This coffee is sourced in collaboration with Paradigma Coffee, founded by Raúl Rodas, the 2012 World Barista Champion and a multi-time Guatemala Barista Champion (2008, 2009, 2010, 2012). Raúl is more than a decorated competitor—he’s a respected green coffee sourcer, exporter, and consultant, known for his deep expertise in Guatemalan coffees. Through Paradigma, he works closely with producers like the Morales family to bring exceptional, traceable lots to roasters around the world.
As described by Barista Hustle, Raúl’s rare combination of championship brewing skills and sourcing knowledge makes him uniquely positioned to elevate Guatemalan coffees on the global stage—and this lot is a perfect example of that mission in action.
