La Claudina is located in Ciudad Bolívar, a traditional Colombian coffee town around 100 km southwest of Medellín. Surrounded by volcanic soil, high altitudes, and warm humid winds, the farm benefits from an environment that is ideal for producing expressive and high-quality coffees. From the farm, you can see the impressive Los Farallones del Citará mountain range, rising up to 3,900 metres above sea level.

The farm is led by Juan Saldarriaga, a young second-generation coffee producer who took over the family project with a vision of pushing quality far beyond the traditional coffee market in Colombia. Since then, La Claudina has become known for its focus on specialty coffee, meticulous processing, and rare varieties.

This particular lot is a Honey processed Maragogype - a rare mutation of the Typica variety, often nicknamed the “elephant bean” due to its unusually large bean size. Maragogype is highly sought after for its elegant and delicate cup profile, offering clarity, complexity, and a refined sweetness when grown and processed well.

For this lot, the coffee is dried with part of the sticky fruit mucilage still attached to the bean during the Honey process. This helps develop extra sweetness, texture, and aromatic intensity while maintaining balance and cleanliness in the cup.
