Sudan Rume is one of the rarest and most fascinating Arabica varieties in the coffee world. Originally discovered growing wild in the Boma Plateau of South Sudan, the variety is prized for its intense florals, tea-like elegance, complex fruit character and remarkable genetic purity. It is also notoriously difficult to grow, producing extremely low yields and requiring careful farming, which makes coffees like this exceptionally limited.

This lot comes from Finca La Riviera, one of the flagship farms of the UBA Coffee project led by Julio César Madrid and his team in Risaralda, Colombia. Located near Los Nevados National Natural Park, the farm sits at around 1750 metres above sea level and benefits from rich volcanic soils, cool mountain temperatures and ideal growing conditions for high-end microlots.

La Riviera has become widely respected within specialty coffee for producing award-winning coffees that combine precision farming with innovative processing techniques. Alongside varieties such as Gesha and Sidra, the farm has also focused heavily on rare and experimental cultivars like Sudan Rume, helping position the project among the most exciting producers in Colombia today.

In the cup, this washed Sudan Rume is incredibly elegant, with delicate florals, clean, refined and almost tea-like in structure, it’s a coffee that rewards slower drinking and attention to detail.
